Young family on a postage stamp block
The brief on this project included the creation of a contemporary design for a busy professional couple with 2 children under 2. Entertaining was a must along with green space for the rug rats to crawl, touch and feel a little nature throughout their formative years. The biggest challenge on this site was footprint, the block is 350 square meters, 3.5 meters from back door to back fence and a similar story in the front. Screening 2 storey neighbours was solved through the use of fast and tall growing clumping bamboo.
The clients wanted to stand out from the crowd, cookie cutter homes and landscaping alike in these modern project home developments create dreary and repetitive streetscapes. The missing piece of the puzzle in this project which helped this home stand out in the street was the inclusion of a gabion wall, giving the property a notable difference from the neighbours along with the mass and stability the wall brings.
