Castle Hill
Downsizing to a battle-axe
This wonderful couple downsized to a 1000 square meter battle-axe block from a small acerage, their previous residence was a gardeners delight. With green thumbs, it was imperative their new garden was a haven where they could exercise their horticultural nuance, with the same fierceness as they were accustomed, but at a fraction of the footprint.
The brief was for a cottage style garden with seasonal change, screening of neighbouring houses and functionailty for flow and movement. Aside from the sweeping lines of the garden beds which gives the design it's bones, the hero of this project is the plant palette. There is interest in this garden year round; the beds are layered with groundcovers, small & medium shrubs, small ornamental trees to the 3 Magnolia 'Exmouth' which anchor the garden, and in time, will screen the large A frame roof in the neighbouring lot.
